This guide explains how to connect and manage a GoDaddy domain with your InkSoft store so customers can easily find your business online. It walks through the domain setup process, outlines key configuration steps, and provides guidance for pointing your custom domain to InkSoft, helping you create a more professional and branded web presence.
GoDaddy is one of the largest Website Domain providers in the country. Many InkSoft users buy their domain from GoDaddy! Whether you're using a custom domain, or a custom subdomain, you'll want to get that pointed to Inksoft first so it has plenty of time to propagate, and then you can connect the domain in your store and secure it with an SSL certificate.
NOTE: GoDaddy updates their user interface often so, the exact route and verbiage for buttons may have changed. The goal is to get to the DNS management page for your custom domain. Examples in this guide will be from GoDaddy, but the information is, in general, applicable to all Domain Providers. Please review your domain provider's resources if you are using a company other than GoDaddy.
Important: Use only one of the two methods below (A Record Change or CNAME Change). Using both A record and CNAME for the same domain can cause routing issues.
GoDaddy Instructions
- Get signed in to your GoDaddy account.
- Once signed in, click Domain on the top right side
- Next click on the domain you wish to change
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page
- Select Manage DNS
DNS Settings
To edit the records, click on the pencil icon shown in the screenshot below.
Option 1: DNS A Record Change (for non subdomains, such as customshirt.com)
For the custom domain you want to use for Inksoft, there should only be 1 A record for that domain, and that A record will be pointed to Inksoft. Multiple A records can routing issues can occur. After ensuring there is only 1 A record for the domain:
- Where it says "Name" - enter @
- Where it says "Data" or "Value" - enter 4.227.42.160
- Click Save
When using a custom domain (not subdomain), make sure to update the www CNAME record so it points to your A record! That way, whether customers use the www version of the custom domain or not (customshirt.com or www.customshirt.com), it will lead to your store!
- Locate the record with the Type CNAME, and the Name www, and click the edit button
- Under "Value" or "Data", enter @, and save.
A successful A record record change to Inksoft, with the WWW record pointed to the A record, should look like this:
- Note: if you see an A record with a data description of "WebsiteBuilder Site", or described as Parked, you will need to reach out to GoDaddy Support for assistance in modifying/updating the record or unparking the domain.
Option 2: DNS CNAME Record Change (to be used for subdomains, such as shop.customshirt.com)
A subdomain is an additional part of your main domain name. Creating these will attach an identifier at the beginning of the custom domain (instead of a traditional www). Taking a look at Inksoft domains, here are examples of a domain and subdomain:
Domain: inksoft.com
Subdomain: stores.inksoft.com
Set Up and Point Your Subdomain
First, create the subdomain record:
1. Click the Add button at the bottom of your Records section.
Now, to fill in the information. The Type field will be CNAME. The Host/Name field will be whatever you want, this is entirely up to you! Some examples would be shop, design, order, homepage, etc. Remember, the Name field is the identifier that will be BEFORE your custom domain.
For Example:
Domain: customshirt.com
Subdomain: shop.customshirt.com, design.customshirt.com, order.customshirt.com, homepage.customshirt.com, etc.
2. For the Data, enter stores.inksoft.com, leave the TTL as is and click the Save button.
Note: For the www CNAME record, please see Option 1, as that record should be edited in tandem with the A record.
Domain Change Propagation Time
Any domain changes can typically take 24-48 hrs, and up to 72 hours to fully propagate on the internet, and only after domains have fully propagated can they be connected in the store. To learn more about Propagation, click here!
If full propagation time has been completed for the record change, and the domain/subdomain can not be connected in store, please reach out to support for assistance!
Non Go Daddy Domains
While the system can support non Go Daddy domains, the method to adjust the records may be different. Should you get a domain from a host other than Go Daddy, you have attempted to adjust the records and the domain is not propagating as expected, we recommend you reach out to that Host's support team to assist with adjusting the records.
