Site Security & SSL Certificates

If you use a custom domain, configure an SSL Certificate to ensure a secure checkout process for your shoppers.

"SSL" is the acronym for Secure Sockets Layer and is the internet standard security technology used to establish an encrypted (or safe) link between a web server (website) and your browser (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).

This secured link ensures that the data/information that is passed from a web browser to the web server remains private and encrypted.

SSL technology is essential for selling online as it allows consumers to make payments online safely.

SSL Certificates

InkSoft has a number of SSL options when securing your InkSoft stores.

  • Free SSL through Let's Encrypt (Recommended)

Let's Encrypt gives people a digital certificate you need in order to enable HTTPS (SSL/TLS) for websites, for free, in the most user-friendly way they can.

  • Dedicated SSL

InkSoft has a wide range of SSL certificates available from leading providers. These Dedicated SSL Certificates are available as a paid add-on. SSL certificates have a yearly fee and renewal fee. Discounts are available for multi-year registration.

This is the built-in option and is free. It will use https://stores.inksoft.com as a prefix in web pages that require security (i.e. account sign-in and checkout pages.). This is the default if you do not have a custom domain.

NOTE: If you have a custom domain but no SSL installed, your domain will change from 'domain.com' to https://stores.inksoft.com/Store_Directory when your shopper is within the Checkout page. This is to ensure that the checkout is always secured with an SSL.

Benefits To Both Free & Dedicated SSL Certificates:

  • Creates consumer confidence by indicating site security
  • You can use your custom domain name versus stores.inksoft.com
  • Every page is secured with an important search engine ranking factor

SSL Certificate Options

Single Domain (Most Common)

You can secure a single custom domain name through this certificate. This can be an umbrella to other stores that you create in the future, as long as, the secondary store DOES NOT have a custom domain.

Examples:

Single domain: https://www.customshirtsnow.com

Single domain with additional Stores created (Umbrella effect)

SSL Product Recommendation for Single Domain:

  • Free SSL through Let's Encrypt (Recommended)
  • Economy option: RapidSSL

Wildcard SSL

Wildcard is designed for securing multiple subdomains

Examples of Wildcard:

Important to Note: www. is known as a subdomain!
